The Three Things
In my last post, I mentioned reminding myself of three things whenever I got scared about taking the leap to leave my day job to become a full time facilitator, coach and speaker. I encourage all of my clients to find their three things; I have found it to be one of the greatest gifts you can give yourself, particularly when you’re about to take a risk or make a big change.
These are my three things.
My business training career began when I worked at SAIF Corporation in the 1990’s and was given the opportunity to develop and teach a writing skills class. I taught this class many times, and one particular session was just for paralegals. One (I recall his name was Llewellen) wrote, on the evaluation form at the end of the class, “I wish all SAIF instructors taught as effectively as you teach.” Thing one.
I was asked to give a speech at the very first Wishweavers Workshop back in October of 2000. I had very little public speaking experience at the time, other than from teaching classes at SAIF and what I had gathered from acting classes. What to say in my speech came to me all at once, in a rush, one sunny afternoon when I was out washing my car. I quickly put down the bucket and rag, turned off the hose, and raced upstairs to my home office before the words left me. The day of the workshop when I spoke, I was so nervous my hand, holding the index card with my notes, visibly shook. But I could tell my presence and my words were reaching people. I was approached later with positive comments. It was that day – over 14 years ago, mind you – I said to myself, “This is what God put me here to do.” Thing two.
Thing three happened in August of 2013 when I had my second reading over the course of two years with a professional psychic, Suzanne Jauchius, I had heard on the radio. The reading was my birthday gift to myself. Suzanne holds an object belonging to you, closes her eyes, and allows the images she sees in her mind’s eye to come. The first thing she said was that she saw me in a state of transition, wherein old doors were closing, new ones were opening, and I was getting rid of things which no longer serve me. The second was she saw me in front of group of a people, talking, inspiring, sharing, making a pitch…and whatever it was I was talking about was deeply personal; I was sharing of myself in a way that would be meaningful to others.
I hope searching your mind and heart for your three things brings you great joy, ah-ha moments, and I hope you find the process as helpful as I have.
Authentically Yours,
Laura
