How Dreams Come True “The Evolution of a Dream” Dream is implanted into brain. Dreamer becomes thrilled. Dreamer becomes terrified. If no action is taken, terrifying thoughts grow into flesh-eating monsters. Dream is considered unrealistic. If action is taken, terrifying thoughts are revealed to be paper tigers. Confidence soars, miracles unfold, and dreamer begins to saunter. Either way, nothing remains the same. Gr-r, The Universe TUT – A Note from the Universe I love what Mike Dooley wrote in this Note from the Universe. Yep, that’s the way it works. We have a dream, fear sets in, and thoughts become monsters. Or, we make a decision to move ahead, one small but firm step at a time, and suddenly the whole process isn’t so scary anymore. Here are two real life examples of how dreams come true. Specifically, two of my dreams – one from 15 years ago and one from this summer. Dream One: Just a few months after the creation of M/6, my first master mind group, or Wishweavers Circle, I walked into one Thursday evening meeting with a wild dream. I was so jazzed about the concepts we’d been using and how successful they’d been, so passionate about sharing them with other people, I voiced my dream to create a video to send to Oprah Winfrey. (Oprah had a network show then, before the creation of her OWN network.) Judy, one of the other M/6 members, looked at me with an expression on her face I will never forget. I could almost see the lightbulb over her head. She said her big dream had been to bring many people together in one room, all helping each other create their dreams. This idea had come to Judy months before, and she’d jotted some notes down, then misplaced them. Judy, Patty (another M/6 member) and I decided to get together the following week in my kitchen and map out a plan for making the big workshop, and the video for Oprah, happen simultaneously. At the very next M/6 meeting a woman named Julie showed up for the first time because she had heard about our group on the local cable access channel, CCTV. AJ, program host, had come to a few meetings and interviewed the group on her TV show, Tapestry. Julie knew how to operate a professional camera, and had the equipment. She was so excited about the video, she invited Joni to the next meeting. Joni had experience with editing and had been wanting to get back into film production work. About the same time, I had read an article about someone I used to work with in the insurance business; Don’s passion was also camera and video work. Judy found the notes she had tucked away and forgotten about. Then, a friend I hadn’t seen in over two years, Ginger, visited over New Year’s Eve and knew someone who knew someone who had just been hired on by Harpo Productions as a field producer. Once I voiced my video dream, all the pieces started falling into place. The first key pieces within less than a month. Until September 11, 2001, when the whole world shifted focus, I had every reason to believe these concepts would be featured on Oprah’s show. I knew exactly the day the pitch had been made to the top producers. While I admit the outcome wasn’t what I had hoped at the time, looking back, I am amazed at the connections leading to the Oprah video...AND to a specific Harpo Productions employee. You can’t make up stuff like this! Oprah’s show was frequently about “living the dream” at the time, and after September 11, 2001, the focus of her shows quickly shifted. You gain strength, courage and confidence every time you look fear in the face. –Eleanor Roosevelt Strength has a way of simplifying things which seem impossible. –Teresa of Avila Read more about M/6 and how to start your own Wishweavers Circle in Six Degrees to Your Dreams https://laurahandke.com/products-services/. Dream Two: A few months ago, on a Godwalk, the idea came to me to offer an acting class. This inspiration appeared out of the blue, with no prompting. My reaction was, basically, “What?” Now, I’m a certified Transformational Voice® teacher, have been on stage since the fifth grade, and have become a proficient actor over the years. So you might wonder why I didn’t think of this sooner, right? The truth is…I was startled. (Yes, I was surprised by my own idea. It happens.) I’ve always been an actor or an acting student…not the teacher. Yet, everything in me said “yes” to the dream. So I started writing about it, brainstorming with an easel and colored markers in my home office, and talking with trusted friends and colleagues. Before I knew it, I had a title for the class, a host home in COEXIST Celebration, a flyer, and people registering! It is impossible to separate attitude from action and say which is primary. –Margaret Mead Saturday, June 6, 2015 (a red letter day if there ever was one) was the first Authentic Performance: Fundamentals of Acting class with six students, none of whom had ever taken an acting class before! The term is now complete and this experience has been remarkable. More details will likely come later, but here’s just one example from that very first class… Everyone was paired up with a partner and assigned an improvisation to do, not by me, by their fellow students. I gave them the five fundamental acting ingredients (see this blog entry for more detail Simply Authentic…Your Soul Voice is Calling. The Craft of Acting) and they went to town! I sat in the audience enraptured as the students became: *An artistic son informing his traditional father he planned to drop out of law school and pursue an acting career. *Newlyweds (love at first sight, married within a week of meeting) grocery shopping for their first family Thanksgiving. And realizing her and her family are vegetarians and he and his family are hunters. *Former spouses who both want their son to spend Christmas with them, but for very different reasons, hers involving a suspected marriage proposal from her new love. *A store owner reprimanding her employee for being on her personal cell phone at work (two different customers had complained.) Then finding out the employee’s boyfriend was in a war zone in Iraq. I was blessed with an amazing first class, I love being an acting teacher, and am super excited for fall term, beginning September 12, downtown Lake Oswego! Thank you for your encouragement.” –Jesse M. “In case I haven't mentioned enough, I LOVE class. It has been so fun and fabulous to jump out of comfort zones and join in the playground. Thank you for all you do!” –Megan G. “This class far exceeded my expectations. I now feel like a looser and more authentic speaker. I appreciated the safe, nurturing environment to grow, take risks and learn acting.” –Bob B. Authentically Yours, Laura
