Desired Change Once you’ve completed your Me Now Exercise (available at www.laurahandke.com on the Products & Services page under Free Stuff), you can narrow down the top three desired life changes you want to work on first. This is the “meat and potatoes” of identifying your dream. It could be things you want to add into your life or things you want to remove. I’ll use an example of a woman named Sally who was a member of the first wish-weaving group I was involved in—we called the group M to the Sixth Power or M6 for short. Sally was a real estate agent, wife, mother and grandmother with several changes she wanted to make in her life. She wanted to remove spending so much time at the real estate office and commuting to work. She wanted to add more time writing, gardening and spending time with her grandchildren. With the support of and accountability to the group, she created a home office which allowed her to spend more time with her family and gardening and less time at the office and commuting. She took a writing class called “A Woman’s Story” at the local community college and began writing her memoirs for her grandchildren. Sally took the initiative and completed these changes in her routine within just a few months and as a result, the quality of her life dramatically improved. The timing was critical, as just a few short years later Sally’s youngest grandchild was in school and the family had moved so they no longer lived in the same vicinity as Sally and her husband. Had she not made those changes when she did, she would have missed a golden window of opportunity. Of course, if Sally can do it, you can do it, too! Since the first Wishweavers workshop in 2000, I have worked with people with huge dreams and visions, like Changing the FACE (Future African Children Educated) of AIDS in Africa. I’ve also worked with people who don’t know exactly what their dream is–they simply know something needs to change. I have come to define a dream as just that—a desired change.
What changes do you want to make in your life? Write down between one and five right now. Never underestimate your power to change yourself… -H. Jackson Brown, Jr. Authentically Yours, Laura
