Simply Authentic...Your Soul Voice is Calling. Begin with the End in Mind

Writer's picture: Kimberly GenlyKimberly Genly

Begin with the End in Mind I saw the angel in the marble and carved until I set him free. –Michelangelo The director of the last play I was in is one of the most skilled, compassionate and imaginative directors (and people) I’ve ever worked with. So I asked to interview him. Ben reads a play script a dozen times or more before he even casts the play. He sees the big picture, the finished product, each particular scene, in his mind’s eye before he works it out practically on stage. Yet he always asks to see the stage right up front, so he knows exactly what he’s got to work with and can better visualize the outcome. My voice teacher, Linda Brice, once told me she internally hears the most authentic, beautiful version of each student’s voice in the beginning, then simply goes about gently correcting any vocal technique issues until it emerges. My friend Rod VanLoh, a wood carving artist, has experiences such as Michelangelo (see above quote) with a piece of, say, cottonwood bark. Or driftwood. Rod is a seer who roams Oregon’s beaches in search of visions; his carvings are the result of his vision quests. The same is true of dream-building, of breathing life into the authentic dreams and whispers of our hearts. We need to start from the end. The clearer your vision is, the easier obstacles can be removed and the help you need can find you. Authentically Yours, Laura
