Simply Authentic...Your Soul Voice is Calling. Beauty on a Budget

Writer's picture: Kimberly GenlyKimberly Genly

Beauty on a Budget My authentic self wants new living room furniture. While I haven’t gone furniture shopping, my mind’s eye has a very good idea of what it will look like – so do my collages, for that matter. Before I snipped images from magazines and catalogs and glued them down, I ran them by my fiancé, to make sure he was on board with my vision. His opinion is kind of important, since we live together! However, new living room furniture is not in my budget right now, and we wouldn’t even have room for what I have in mind in our current living room. So…it’s a vision for the future in our next home, which is fun – something to look forward to. On my Godwalk today, I was reminded that satisfying our authentic self’s need for beauty and change doesn’t have to mean a major overall or a bunch of money. I saw an unassuming, simple ranch style house with a two car garage in front and the main entrance down a sidewalk on the left side. There was also a small side yard with two patio tables, each adorned with a large quality pot with blooming plants in them. Two Adirondack chairs, painted a rust color, were artfully arranged by the tables, facing out toward the yard and sidewalk. The sidewalk was swept free of debris and 7 or 8 small, symmetrical pumpkins, evenly placed, dotted the edge bordering the yard.  At the end of the sidewalk, against the house, near the door, was a freshly varnished wooden crate. The whole set-up brought such a smile to my face, I walked down the sidewalk so I could tell you precisely what was in the arrangement in the crate. A bunch of pinecones, silk fall colored leaves, miniature squashes, and rose-hips. It was absolutely lovely, and no doubt very affordable. I came home inspired to make a small, delightful change in my living room to celebrate autumn, knowing I can do so on a budget, and probably with items I already have on hand. So can you, if it sings to your soul. Don’t feel you have to deny or ignore your feelings when you want something beautiful but can’t afford it. The desire offers clues to satisfy this holy hunger. Explore why you behold something as beautiful; use your impressions to jump-start your imagination. Beauty surrounds us. It is everywhere if we search for it, if we’re open to having more of it in our lives. –Sarah Ban Breathnach, Simple Abundance If you found this post helpful, please share it with your friends!
