Change is Upon Us

How do you feel about summer ending?

Autumn has always been my favorite season, while many people dread the end of long, sunny days. I revel in the leaves changing colors and a crisp bite creeping into the morning air. It always feels like the beginning of a new year to me.

Fall is especially welcome this year since leaving Lake Oswego, OR, for Watertown, SD. We’ve been here for seven weeks now, and the month of August was far more humid (always windy) than I remember my home state being. My body, (and hair!), are having a challenging adjustment.

This year it also feels like even more change is afoot, not just the changing of the seasons. Do you feel it, too? The world is in turmoil in so many ways and we’re inundated with social media messages, fake news, and being sold everything from the latest weight loss drug to 120 different kinds of purple home decor because you once Googled a lavender, wheat, and eucalyptus green piece of artwork for your new bedroom.  (Yes, I did that. Not weight loss drugs!)

Yet sometimes social media suggestions are good – that’s how I found a spiritual teacher in Australia, Yvonne Teoh Bource, I’ve become fond of. I’m guessing she was recommended to me because I’ve taken classes from the incredible spiritual psychic Sara Wiseman in Oregon. I’ve watched several of Vonne’s YouTube videos, and here’s one from today you might find interesting: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d63RyDBzAn8.

Yes, there is massive upheaval in the world, certainly more than I’ve experienced in this one little lifetime. I’m doing the best I can to be a part of the change for positive good, and it’s not always easy. Sometimes it’s hard not to wallow, retreat, or have an emotional meltdown. (Did that, too!)

Yet change is always happening whether we want it to or not. That’s just life. Some changes will be awesome. Some will be hard. Bringing out your voice helps. SINGING helps. Music helps. Making and viewing art helps. Meditation. Being in nature and connecting with our planet, yes, please, let’s all do that as often as possible!

I auditioned for my first play since arriving here and was cast as SIS (and older SIS) in LEAVING IOWA, directed by Laura Maag, at the Town Players Theater. https://www.facebook.com/WatertownTownPlayers/ We’ve had two super fun read-throughs so far and the show will run the third week of November.

That helps, too...being in community where you can make art and grow something together. I’ll keep you posted on more details before opening night.

If you feel like you might need some extra community, please feel free to post messages on the blog to connect with like-minded others.

Sending you blessings for, as Carole King once sang, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M2_6Z__O8LA&t=82s

a sweet season.

Love Your Voice & Voice Your Love,

Laura
